Israel Supports Gaza Peace Deal as US Airdrops Commence

Israel Accepts Ceasefire Deal with Hamas

A senior US official announced on Saturday that Israel has broadly accepted a ceasefire deal with Hamas. This comes as the first American airdrops of humanitarian aid were carried out over war-ravaged Gaza.

Ceasefire Agreement Details

The framework agreement envisions a six-week cessation of hostilities, contingent on Hamas signing off on the release of the most vulnerable hostages it holds. The ball is currently in Hamas’ court, as stated by the administration official.

Humanitarian Aid Airdrops

US military cargo planes initiated airdrops of humanitarian aid into the besieged Gaza Strip. Saturday’s drop included 38,000 meals aimed at providing essential relief to civilians affected by the conflict, according to the US Central Command.

Negotiations for Truce

Negotiators from regional powers are working tirelessly to secure a Gaza truce before the start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. The ceasefire, if agreed upon by Hamas, would prioritize the release of vulnerable hostages like the sick, wounded, elderly, and women.

Hope for Enduring Peace

The United States hopes that the ceasefire will pave the way for a lasting peace in the region. A Hamas delegation is set to engage in discussions in Cairo to further the truce talks.

Call for Humanitarian Assistance

A ceasefire would not only enable a surge in humanitarian aid to Gaza but also highlight the necessity of efficient aid delivery through land crossings, in addition to airdrops and maritime corridors.

UN Security Council’s Concern

The UN Security Council has expressed grave concern over food insecurity in Gaza and has urged the unrestricted delivery of humanitarian aid on a large scale.
