Joshua Pacio Eager for Trilogy Fight with Jarred Brooks
After a controversial ending to their title bout rematch, ONE strawweight champion Joshua Pacio is looking forward to settling his “unfinished business” with American rival Jarred Brooks.
Pacio’s Determination
Pacio expressed his desire to complete the trilogy with Brooks, who lost the strawweight title due to disqualification for illegally slamming Pacio’s head on the canvas. Despite recovering from a neck injury, Pacio is focused on facing Brooks as soon as he receives medical clearance.
Recovery and Preparation
Following doctor’s advice, Pacio is taking a two-month break after a 14-day training hiatus post the controversial bout. Fortunately, he did not sustain any major fractures despite the knockout-inducing slam during the fight.
Pacio believes the recovery period will be sufficient to prepare for a potential third match against Brooks. He aims for the trilogy fight to take place this year, preferably in the Philippines.
Previous Encounters
Pacio and Brooks first clashed in December 2022, where Brooks emerged victorious, claiming the title. Despite hiring a wrestler to match Brooks’ style for their second encounter, the fight ended in an unsatisfactory manner.
Reflecting on his victory, Pacio acknowledged the hard work put in by his team and training partners. He sees the experience as an opportunity to regroup and improve as an athlete.
Describing Brooks as the toughest opponent he has faced, Pacio credits him for elevating his skills and making him a better mixed martial artist.
