Investigation Launched on Varsity Player’s Injury in Taekwondo Sparring
The Philippine Taekwondo Association (PTA) has initiated an investigation into an incident involving a 17-year-old female varsity player from Jesus Is Lord Colleges Foundation, Inc. in Bulacan. The player sustained injuries during a sparring session with a more experienced male teammate.
Details of the Incident
- The female yellow belter suffered a swollen lip and bruises on her face.
- She was allegedly ordered by her coach to spar with a black belter, who is a heavier and more experienced teammate.
- A video of the sparring session captured the moment when the victim received a forceful kick to the head.
Statements from Involved Parties
The PTA released a statement saying, “We are working within our jurisdiction to determine the facts of the events and ensure accountability within our community.”
The victim expressed her ordeal, stating, “I almost died because of the beating I got.”
The mother of the victim raised concerns about the coach’s behavior, suggesting that his actions were motivated by romantic interests in her daughter.
The JILCF taekwondo team defended the coach, emphasizing that the training adheres to PTA regulations.
Call for Prudence
The PTA urged the public to be cautious in their comments, especially considering the involvement of minors in the incident.
