Explosion at Military Ammunition Warehouse Near Jakarta
Over 130 families were evacuated following an explosion at a military ammunition warehouse near the Indonesian capital of Jakarta. The incident took place at the warehouse owned by the Jayakarta Regional Military Command in Ciangsana Village, Bogor regency, West Java province, approximately 7 kilometers away from Jakarta’s eastern border.
Details of the Incident
The first explosion was heard around 6:00 p.m. at the depot used to store expired ammunition inside a military complex near Jakarta. Firefighters managed to douse the blaze by 3:45 a.m. the next day, after deploying twenty-seven fire trucks to the location.
Current Situation
As of now, the fire has been extinguished, but authorities are conducting a cooling down process to prevent any potential reignition. Fortunately, there have been no reported fatalities. Nearby residents were evacuated to safer areas, and although most have returned home, caution is advised as hazardous materials may be present in the surrounding areas.
Possible Causes
Authorities suspect that the explosion was triggered by unstable expired ammunition stored in the warehouse. The absence of electricity in the facility may have contributed to the incident. The military is currently investigating the area for any dangerous materials that may pose a risk to the public.
