Israelis Protest for Hostages’ Release and Netanyahu’s Ouster
Thousands of Israelis took to the streets in Jerusalem for the second consecutive night to demand increased efforts to free hostages held in Gaza and call for the ouster of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Mass Protests in Jerusalem
Demonstrators blocked a main city highway and rallied in front of the Israeli parliament, lighting fires and waving Israeli flags. Police used water cannons against the protesters, pushing them back as they chanted for Netanyahu to resign.
Growing Pressure on Netanyahu
Protesters claim that the Jerusalem protest was the largest since the outbreak of the war in Gaza in October. Families of the hostages in Gaza have vowed to continue nightly protests to “bring them home,” joining forces with those opposing Netanyahu’s right-wing government.
Protests Across Israel
In Tel Aviv, protesters blocked the city’s main motorway for nearly two hours, while others gathered outside Netanyahu’s Jerusalem home, demanding his resignation. Demonstrators expressed anger over Netanyahu’s handling of the Hamas attack and called for immediate elections.
Call for Accountability
Protesters held placards with messages blaming Netanyahu for the hostage crisis and accusing the government of negligence. The ongoing demonstrations reflect a deepening public frustration with the current leadership.
Escalating Tensions
The hostage crisis, which began with a Hamas attack on October 7, has left Israel reeling. The toll on both sides continues to rise, with casualties mounting and calls for swift action growing louder.
