Gaza Crisis: UN Reports ‘Dire’ Conditions, Resumes Night-time Aid Deliveries

UN Officials Launch Assessment Visits to Gaza

UN officials have initiated assessment visits to Gaza following a 48-hour pause in aid deliveries after the tragic killing of seven World Central Kitchen relief workers by Israeli forces. The agencies will resume night-time aid deliveries on Thursday to address the urgent humanitarian crisis in the region.

Urgent Call for Ceasefire and Peace

The World Health Organization (WHO) chief, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, described the situation in Gaza as disastrous and reiterated the urgent need for a ceasefire. The call for the release of hostages and the establishment of lasting peace in the region has been emphasized.

Challenges in Aid Delivery

Top UN officials have expressed concerns about the looming famine in northern Gaza due to blockades and delays in aid entry by Israeli forces. The ongoing conflict has resulted in severe challenges in providing essential supplies to the affected population.

Aid and Assessment Missions

The UN Spokesperson reported that WHO teams have conducted assessments and delivered critical supplies to hospitals in Gaza City. The dire conditions in health facilities, such as Al-Shifa Hospital, have been highlighted, underscoring the urgent need for humanitarian assistance.

Grave Humanitarian Conditions

UN agencies on the ground have observed worsening humanitarian conditions in Gaza, with limited access to water, food, and healthcare amid constant bombardment. The situation has led to a significant impact on the well-being of the population, especially women and children.

Challenges in the West Bank

Reports of aggressions against Palestinians and their property in the occupied West Bank have raised concerns. The UN humanitarian relief agency has documented demolitions and casualties, emphasizing the need for immediate action to address the escalating crisis.

Human Rights Council’s Response

The UN Human Rights Council is set to vote on draft resolutions related to the conflict in Gaza, including calls for an arms embargo on Israel. The international community is urged to take measures to prevent further violations of humanitarian law and human rights abuses in the region.
