Widespread flooding in Australia has led to a natural disaster declaration in regions across New South Wales. Intense rainfall over the weekend resulted in the evacuation of around 300 homes in northeast Sydney, according to emergency services.

Floodwaters have caused extensive damage across the state in a short period of time, as stated by federal minister for emergency management Catherine King. Emergency crews have conducted approximately 200 flood rescues since Friday, with some areas being isolated due to damaged or flooded roads.

Around 5,000 volunteers have been working tirelessly to assist those affected by the flooding, providing support throughout the night. State emergency commissioner Carlene York has highlighted that 60 community warnings are still in effect for affected regions.

Officials in twelve areas have activated disaster support to aid in cleanup efforts and provide emergency accommodation. This marks the seventh flood in the region within the past 18 months, underscoring the ongoing challenges posed by natural disasters.
