French Mayor Arrested for Drug Trafficking
French police have arrested the mayor of a French town and two of her brothers after finding at least 70 kilograms (150 pounds) of cannabis resin in her home. The mayor, Jamilah Habsaoui, who has been in office since 2021 and also serves as a regional councilor, was one of several targets in a police raid following an investigation into drug trafficking in the eastern town.
Police Operation Details
- The mayor’s home, town hall, and the pharmacy where Habsaoui worked were all searched.
- An investigation source reported that 70kg of cannabis was seized.
- A total of seven people, including Habsaoui and her two brothers, were detained.
- Additional findings from the investigation included 983 grammes of cocaine, 7,000 euros ($7,700) in cash, and about 20 gold ingots.
Nationwide Crackdown on Drug Trade
The operation was part of a broader nationwide campaign to combat the growing drugs trade in French cities.
