Russia’s Missile Strike at Ukraine’s Energy Facilities
Russia launched a significant missile strike at Ukraine overnight, targeting energy facilities and causing damage to power plants in multiple regions, according to officials in Kyiv.
Escalation of Attacks on Ukraine’s Power Network
Recent months have seen Moscow intensify its strikes against Ukraine’s power network, resulting in blackouts and prompting the country to urge consumers to ration their energy usage.
The Ukrainian army reported that Russian armed forces carried out another massive missile attack on the country, specifically targeting its energy infrastructure. Facilities in Dnipropetrovsk, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Lviv regions were among those attacked.
Impact on Energy Infrastructure
Energy Minister German Galushchenko confirmed on Facebook that there was damage to equipment as a result of the missile strikes. DTEK, a major power operator, stated that equipment at four of its thermal power plants suffered severe damage.
The air force disclosed that Moscow launched 34 missiles, with 21 being intercepted. In Kryvyi Rih, two individuals were injured, as reported by Oleksandr Vilkul, president of the city’s defense council.
Call for Energy Conservation
In response to the damage and limited energy supplies, the head of the Lviv region advised residents to refrain from using energy-intensive appliances like kettles, irons, washing machines, and microwaves between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. to help maintain the balance of production and consumption.
Counterattack by Ukraine
Meanwhile, Ukraine reportedly launched one of its largest-ever drone attacks on the southern Krasnodar region and the annexed Crimean peninsula. The defense ministry announced that Ukrainian air defenses successfully destroyed 66 drones over Krasnodar and two more over Crimea.
