Celebrating UST Golden Tigresses’ Journey in UAAP Season 86 Women’s Volleyball Tournament
Parading a roster mostly composed of rookies and sophomores, the UST Golden Tigresses entered the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament with modest expectations. However, as they advance to the Final Four with a twice-to-beat advantage, their sights are set on clinching the championship.
Chasing the Championship Dream
After a thrilling four-set victory over defending champion La Salle Lady Spikers, the UST Golden Tigresses sealed their spot in the semifinals with a 12-2 record. This achievement positions them as strong contenders for the coveted title, aiming to end their 14-year championship drought.
The Road to Victory
Leading the charge for the Tigresses, Angge Poyos showcased a stellar performance with 22 points, igniting the crowd with her MVP-worthy plays. Supported by Jonna Perdido’s 19 points and Regina Jurado’s 13 points, the team displayed exceptional teamwork and determination.
Despite the Lady Spikers’ efforts, spearheaded by Shevana Laput’s impressive 26 points, the return of reigning MVP Angel Canino was not enough to secure a win. Canino, who had been sidelined due to injury, contributed 13 points in the match.
Looking Ahead
As the Final Four approaches, the UST Golden Tigresses are poised to face familiar rivals in a quest for the championship title. With the support of their dedicated fans and a unified team spirit, they are determined to make history and bring glory back to UST.
