Director Philip King’s Latest Film Releases
Director Philip King made a remarkable debut with two new films, “Elevator” and “G! LU,” which premiered in local cinemas on April 24.
King’s Journey as a Writer-Director
The simultaneous release of these two films signifies a significant milestone in King’s career. Previously a scriptwriter for ABS-CBN for over a decade, King penned popular primetime shows like “Noah” and “Budoy.” He also wrote and directed Tencent Pictures’ first Filipino Original Series, “Section St. Valentine: The Disappearance of Divine,” available for streaming on WE TV. Additionally, he co-created the acclaimed TV series “Bagman.”
Themes in Elevator and G! LU
According to King, “Elevator” and “G! LU” represent two distinct phases of life. “Elevator” captures the essence of being wild, young, and free, while “G! LU” explores the complexities of success and failure.
About the Films
Elevator: Produced by Rein Entertainment in collaboration with Viva Entertainment, Cineko Productions, WASD Media Productions, and Dogma Films, “Elevator” features a stellar cast including Paulo Avelino, Kylie Verzosa, and Singaporean actor Adrian Pang. The film portrays a modern-day love story of two ambitious Filipinos in Singapore facing a dilemma between love and career aspirations.
G! LU: Created by ALV Films in partnership with Bench and Rein Entertainment, “G! LU” stars a lineup of talented young actors such as Ruru Madrid, Derrick Monasterio, David Licauco, Kiko Estrada, Teejay Marquez, Enzo Pineda, and more. The movie follows a group of friends as they embrace the freedom of their last days of summer.
Future Projects
Aside from these releases, Rein Entertainment is also collaborating on “The Bagman” with ABS-CBN International, Dreamscape Entertainment, and Nathan Studios. The company’s founders, Lino Cayetano, Philip King, and Shugo Praico, emphasize the importance of co-productions in the industry.
