Bennie Boatwright’s Naturalization Process for Gilas Begins in Senate

Gilas Pilipinas Naturalization Process

Gilas Pilipinas is looking towards the future with the initiation of the naturalization process for former San Miguel import, Bennie Boatwright.

Senate Bill for Naturalization

On April 29, Senator Sonny Angara filed Senate Bill No. 2646 to kickstart the naturalization process for the 27-year-old forward, highlighting Boatwright’s strong connection with Filipinos and his eagerness to continue representing the Philippines.

Benefit to Philippine Basketball

Chairman of Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP), Sonny Angara, emphasized that Boatwright’s naturalization will significantly enhance Philippine basketball’s global presence and development.

Boatwright’s Contributions

Boatwright’s impact was felt during his time with San Miguel in the 2023-2024 PBA Commissioner’s Cup, leading the team to their 29th championship victory with impressive statistics.

Boatwright’s Willingness to Play for Gilas

Expressing his enthusiasm for joining Gilas Pilipinas, Boatwright described the opportunity as a “no-brainer,” citing the welcoming environment and support he has received in the Philippines.

Future Prospects

If the naturalization process is successful, Boatwright will join a talented pool of naturalized players in Gilas, including notable names like Justin Brownlee, Ange Kouame, and NBA star Jordan Clarkson.
