Premier Volleyball League to Determine Lineups for International Competitions
Tasked with forming the Philippine national women’s volleyball team, the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) is set to convene on Wednesday, May 8, to finalize the 20-player pool for the upcoming AVC Challenge Cup to be held in Manila.
Anticipated Lineup Announcement
The lineup announcement is expected shortly after the PVL’s best-of-three All-Filipino finals between the Creamline Cool Smashers and the Choco Mucho Flying Titans starting Thursday, May 9.
Confirmation and Approval Process
PVL chairman Tony Boy Liao confirmed the development as the league works closely with the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) national team commissioner. SportsVision chief Ricky Palou mentioned the formation of a 20-player pool awaiting approval from national team head coach Jorge Edson Souza de Brito.
Responsibility Delegation
The PNVF has delegated the task of forming, training, and managing the women’s team to the PVL starting with the AVC Challenge Cup for Women from May 22 to 29. Palou expressed gratitude for the opportunity to handle the national team for women’s volleyball.
Upcoming Competition
The AVC Challenge Cup for Women will feature teams from the Philippines, Kazakhstan, Iran, Chinese Taipei, Vietnam, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, and India. The tournament will take place at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Manila.
