Dutch Police Arrest Activists at Pro-Palestinian Demonstration

Police Action to Restore Order

Authorities in the Netherlands stated that the police intervention was necessary to restore order after the protests escalated into violence. No injuries were immediately reported.

Details of the Incident

Video footage from the scene showed police using a mechanical digger to dismantle barricades and officers using batons and shields to disperse the protesters and dismantle their tents. Protesters had constructed barricades using wooden pallets and bicycles.

Protests at Amsterdam University

Scores of demonstrators had occupied a small island at the university, urging academic institutions in Amsterdam to sever ties with Israel following recent events in the Gaza Strip.

Spread of Demonstrations in Europe

Similar demonstrations have taken place at campuses in France and the United Kingdom, with protesters advocating for solidarity with Palestinians.

Continued Protests in Finland and Denmark

In Finland, protesters from the Students for Palestine solidarity group established an encampment at the University of Helsinki, while in Denmark, students set up a pro-Palestinian camp at the University of Copenhagen.

The University of Helsinki and the University of Copenhagen administrations have called for dialogue and respect for campus rules amid the ongoing protests.
