Apple’s Secret Meeting with TSMC
According to a recent report, Apple held a confidential meeting with TSMC to secure production capacity for the chipmaker’s upcoming 2-nanometer manufacturing process.
Key Players in the Meeting
The meeting was reportedly attended by Apple’s Chief Operating Officer, Jeff Williams, and TSMC President, Wei Zhejia.
Agenda of the Meeting
The main agenda of the meeting was to secure 2nm production capacity not only for A- and M-Series chipsets but also for Apple’s in-house AI chips.
Previous Collaborations
Apple had previously secured all of TSMC’s 3nm production capacity for 2023. The iPhone 15 Pro models were the first smartphones to feature the 3nm A17 Pro chips. Additionally, the new iPad Pro (2024) tablets are equipped with the 3nm Apple M4 chips.
Future Plans
In the upcoming year, all new iPhone 16 models will be powered by A18 chips manufactured on TSMC’s second-generation 3nm node (N3E). TSMC is expected to commence mass production of 2nm chips in the latter half of 2025.
