Sen. Bong Revilla’s Rollercoaster Week

The Journey of Senator Bong Revilla Jr. from Victory to Concern

The thrill of victory, celebrated by family, friends, and supporters, quickly turned into a moment of concern for Senator and action star Ramon Bong Revilla Jr. Just days after winning Comedy Actor of the Year at the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation’s Box Office Entertainment Awards on May 12, Revilla was forced to file a medical leave from the Senate due to complications from surgery on his torn Achilles tendon in April.

Recognition and Gratitude

Senator Bong’s latest accolade was given for his outstanding performance in “Walang Matigas na Pulis sa Matinik na Misis,” a TV adaptation of his blockbuster comedy-action movie from the ’90s. The series, which premiered on GMA in June 2023, has maintained high ratings over its two-season run. It successfully displayed another aspect of Sen. Bong’s acting capabilities, as he delighted audiences with a playful and humorous side, which is hardly seen in his usual all-out action movies.

Unable to attend the awards night due to his ongoing recovery, Senator Bong expressed his gratitude for the recognition that truly lifted his spirits.

Acknowledgment and Optimism

Senator Bong’s character, Major Bartolome “Tolome” Reynaldo, has undoubtedly won over a new generation of viewers with his comedic depiction of a tough policeman who, within the confines of his home, is actually a submissive husband to his wife Gloria. The show’s success and the Comedy Actor of the Year award serve to reaffirm his versatility in front of the camera.

Senator Bong expressed optimism about his recovery, noting that it would take anywhere from three months to a year, despite the latest setback due to complications in his Achilles tendon surgery.

The Road to Recovery

Senator Bong’s medical leave was necessitated by complications in the surgical area of his Achilles tendon, as revealed by his doctor. The prescribed rest and care are crucial for his healing and prevention of further complications.

Senate President Miguel Zubiri promptly approved Senator Bong’s medical leave, emphasizing the importance of following the doctor’s recommendations. However, Senator Bong’s determination to fulfill his responsibilities, both in the Senate and in the entertainment industry, remains unwavering.
