Filipino Esports Star AK Laverez Clinches First Major Tekken Title
Filipino esports standout Alexandre “AK” Laverez secured his first major title in Tekken by emerging victorious at the Combo Breaker event in Illinois, United States. This achievement marks a significant milestone in AK’s career.
Grand Finals Victory
In an intense showdown, AK staged a remarkable comeback to defeat Pakistani star Arslan “Arslan Ash” Siddique with a score of 3-2 in the grand finals. His expertise with Shaheen played a crucial role in his victory, as he overcame a 1-2 deficit to claim the championship.
Previous Performances and Redemption
Prior to his triumph at Combo Breaker, AK had faced setbacks against Arslan Ash in previous competitions. Despite finishing second to Arslan Ash in the 2019 EVO Japan and the 2022 ONE Esports FIGHT! Tokyo Invitational, AK’s perseverance paid off with his recent win.
His victory at Combo Breaker also marked redemption for his runner-up placements in the IESF World Esports Championships and the Tekken World Tour Finals Last Chance Qualifiers. This win not only solidified his position in the esports scene but also showcased his resilience and skill.
Achievements and Rankings
Following his success at Combo Breaker, the 23-year-old AK earned a substantial prize of nearly $9,400 (over P540,000) along with 560 points in the Tekken World Tour rankings. Currently, he holds the third position with 860 points, trailing behind Japan’s Yuta “Chikurin” Take and Marquis “Shadow” Jordan.
Pakistan’s Muhammad “Farzeen” Farzeen, whom AK defeated in the winners finals, secured the third spot in Combo Breaker, highlighting the competitive nature of the event.
