Prized High School Prospect Andy Gemao Shines in 2024 NBTC National Finals
Andy Gemao, a highly regarded high school basketball player, made a significant impact in his debut game at the 2024 NBTC National Finals. Representing FilNation Select-USA, Gemao led his team to a commanding 106-51 victory over Philippine Christian University-Dasmariñas on March 18.
Impressive Performance
Gemao showcased his skills by scoring 16 points, grabbing 9 rebounds, and dishing out 4 assists. This performance came after his participation in the NBA’s Basketball Without Borders camp held during the NBA All-Star weekend in Indianapolis in February.
Learning and Adapting
Reflecting on his experience at the Basketball Without Borders camp, Gemao emphasized the importance of quickly adjusting to new teammates. The former Letran Squire, who now plays for Veritas Academy National Prep in California, expressed his eagerness to continue improving his teamwork skills in the upcoming games.
Team Success
Playing alongside other talented Filipino-American prospects like Caelum Harris and Jacob Bayla, Gemao contributed to a well-rounded team effort. Bayla led the team with 19 points, supported by Terrence Hill with 15 points and Harris with 13 points.
Gemao’s exceptional athleticism was highlighted by his impressive 40.5-inch vertical jump, the highest among camp participants. Despite a loss in the camp’s championship game, Gemao’s performance caught the attention of viewers and opponents alike.
High Expectations
With FilNation Select aiming for the championship title in the NBTC tournament, Gemao remains focused on achieving success with his team. His previous achievements, including leading the Letran Squires to the NCAA Season 98 juniors championship, demonstrate his leadership and competitive spirit.
As Gemao and his teammates gear up for the challenges ahead, their collective goal is clear: nothing less than the championship will satisfy their ambitions.
