Arrests Made in Connection with Shooting at Salman Khan’s Home
Police in India arrested two members of a notorious criminal gang for firing at the home of Bollywood actor Salman Khan. The incident was believed to be in retaliation for Khan’s killing of two antelopes, an act that angered the Bishnoi gang, known for its involvement in murders and extortion rackets.
Background of the Bishnoi Gang
The Bishnoi gang, which originates from a desert-based religious sect, reveres antelopes as the reincarnation of their guru. Khan has been a target of the group since 1998 when he shot two blackbucks during a hunting trip.
Recent Shooting Incident
During the early hours of Sunday, two men on a motorbike fired shots at Khan’s apartment in Mumbai’s Bandra neighborhood. Despite being heavily guarded due to threats on his life, Khan was present at home during the incident. The suspects, aged 24 and 21, were later apprehended in Gujarat state.
Legal History and Threats
Khan was previously sentenced to jail for violating the Wildlife Protection Act in 2018 but had his penalty suspended on appeal. The gang’s leader, Lawrence Bishnoi, has issued threats against Khan in the past, including warnings of assassination.
Continuing Controversies
While Khan remains a prominent figure in Bollywood with a successful career in films and television, his personal life has been marked by controversies. In addition to the recent shooting incident, Khan has faced legal challenges, including a hit-and-run case from 2002 that is still unresolved.
