The Caraga Regional Athletic Games 2024: Uniting Young Athletes
Clad in colorful uniforms, over 8,000 student athletes from the Caraga region gathered at the Datu Lipus Makapandong Democrito O. Plaza Sports Complex in Prosperidad town, Agusan del Sur for the Caraga Regional Athletic Games (CaRAGa) 2024 opening ceremony.
Event Details
The regional sporting event, hosted by the provincial government of Agusan del Sur, aims to select the region’s representatives for the upcoming Palarong Pambansa in Cebu. Athletes from elementary to senior high school levels across 12 public school divisions participate in 25 sports disciplines.
Venue Highlights
The sports complex boasts a 3,000-seat grandstand, a rubberized track and field oval, a football field with artificial grass, an Olympics-size swimming pool, and more. The facility underwent upgrades from 2018 to 2023, making it a top-notch venue for the games.
Health and Safety Measures
To ensure the well-being of athletes, outdoor games are suspended during peak temperatures, with first aid stations, medical personnel, and rescuers stationed at the venue and billeting quarters. Water tanks and fire trucks are on standby to address any emergencies.
Future Plans
The provincial government of Agusan del Sur has submitted a bid to host the Palarong Pambansa in 2026, with plans for enhanced preparations and facilities if selected. Governor Santiago Cane Jr. expressed optimism and readiness for the potential hosting opportunity.
