Carlos Alcaraz Stung by Bees During Indian Wells Match

Carlos Alcaraz expressed his surprise at staying focused during his quarterfinal match against Alexander Zverev at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, despite being stung by bees that caused a temporary halt in the game.

The Bee Invasion

During the third game of the match, a swarm of bees descended upon Alcaraz, leading to a disruption in play. Despite trying to swat them away, the bees stung him on the forehead, forcing him to seek cover.

Alcaraz’s Experience

Alcaraz described the overwhelming experience of the bee attack, stating, “I saw some bees around but I thought it was just a few of them, just not too many. But I saw the sky and there was thousands flying, stuck in my hair, going to me. It was crazy.”

After an hour and 48 minutes, play resumed with the assistance of a beekeeper to manage the situation. Alcaraz shared his struggle to focus on the match amidst the bee presence, emphasizing the importance of maintaining his concentration.

Resuming Play

Following the interruption to clear the bees from the court, Alcaraz swiftly resumed the match and defeated Zverev in little over 90 minutes. Despite his initial fear of bees, Alcaraz managed to overcome the distraction and secure his victory.

Reflecting on the unusual incident, Alcaraz remarked, “It was strange, I’ve never seen something like that at a tennis match. I’m not going to lie, I’m a little bit afraid of the bees.”

The match concluded with Alcaraz extending his winning streak in the Californian desert to 10 matches, showcasing his resilience and determination amidst unexpected challenges.
