Cone Speechless After Ginebra Blowout Defeat

Barangay Ginebra Suffers Defeat Against Meralco in PBA Philippine Cup

The recent loss of Barangay Ginebra to Meralco in the PBA Philippine Cup has left head coach Tim Cone at a loss for words.

Game Recap

  • Barangay Ginebra, with a 2-0 start, faced a tough defeat against Meralco with a score of 91-73.
  • This defeat marked the lowest scoring output of the season for the powerhouse team.
  • Notable performances from Meralco’s Allein Maliksi and Chris Newsome, with 25 and 19 points respectively, overshadowed Ginebra’s scoring efforts.
  • Ginebra’s Maverick Ahanmisi, Christian Standhardinger, and Japeth Aguilar led the team with 14, 13, and 13 points respectively.
  • The absence of Jamie Malonzo’s usual scoring output contributed to Ginebra’s struggles, as he only managed 4 points in this game.
  • Ginebra’s 19 turnovers further compounded their challenges during the match.

Coach Cone’s Reaction

Coach Cone expressed his disappointment with the team’s performance, stating, “Embarrassing. That’s all I’ve got to say. We’re just absolutely embarrassed from moment 1 to moment 10 – 48 minutes.”

Reflecting on the defeat, Cone added, “I don’t have answers to any questions. I don’t know what the hell happened. It’s an embarrassing night.”

The team, still missing star guard Scottie Thompson due to injury, will have a two-week break before their next game against Magnolia on March 31.
