Earth Hour: A Global Call to Action

The largest global environment movement takes place on Earth Hour, initiated by the UN to raise awareness about the planetary crisis. Participants worldwide are encouraged to turn off their lights as a symbolic gesture towards a sustainable future.

UN Secretary General António Guterres emphasizes the importance of Earth Hour, urging individuals to join the movement for a better future for all. He highlights the urgency of addressing climate change following the record-breaking temperatures of 2023.

UN Headquarters Participation

The UN Secretariat will observe Earth Hour by turning off all lights for 60 minutes starting at 8:30pm New York time on Saturday, showcasing solidarity in the fight against climate change.

World Meteorological Day: Climate Action at the Forefront

World Meteorological Day, celebrated annually on 23 March, focuses on the theme “At the frontline of climate action.” Led by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the day serves as a reminder of the urgent need to address climate change.

WMO Secretary-General Celeste Saulo stresses the importance of transitioning to renewable energy and adopting a net-zero approach in combating climate change. She emphasizes the role of young people in engaging with climate action.

Weather Kids Campaign

The Weather Kids campaign, launched by WMO, UNDP, and UNICEF, empowers children to voice their climate concerns. This initiative aims to raise awareness about climate change and its impact on future generations.
