Emma Malabuyo Represents the Philippines at the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup Series
In the recent Baku leg of the 2024 FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup Series, Emma Malabuyo from the Philippines showcased her talent but narrowly missed out on a medal in the women’s floor exercise final. Despite finishing fourth with 13.133 points, Malabuyo’s performance highlighted her potential to secure a spot in the Paris Olympics alongside fellow gymnasts Carlos Yulo and Aleah Finnegan.
The competition was fierce, with Austria’s Charlize Moerz claiming the top spot with 13.566 points, followed closely by China’s Ou Yushan and Algeria’s Kaylia Nemour. While Malabuyo didn’t secure a podium finish this time, her consistent performances have positioned her as a strong contender for Olympic qualification.
With the World Cup Series serving as a crucial Olympic qualifier, Malabuyo’s ranking in the floor exercise event puts her in a promising position. However, she faces stiff competition from gymnasts like Spain’s Laura Casabuena, Turkey’s Sevgi Kayisoglu, and Egypt’s Jana Mahmoud in the upcoming final leg of the competition in Doha, Qatar.
In the broader context of the event, only Carlos Yulo managed to secure a medal for the Philippines by winning bronze in the men’s floor exercise. Levi Jung-Ruivivar also represented the Philippines in the women’s uneven bars final, finishing in eighth place.
