Boxer Hergie Bacyadan moves closer to securing a spot in the Paris Olympics as she advances to the last 16 of the women’s 75kg class in the second World Qualification Tournament.

Only Bacyadan and Tokyo Games silver medalist Carlo Paalam are in contention in Bangkok after other Filipino boxers dropped their opening bouts.

Paalam, who won his first fight in the tournament, will face Turkmenistan’s Shukur Ovezov in the round of 32.

To secure a spot in Paris, Paalam must advance to the finals as only three boxers in his division qualify for the Olympics.
