Golden Double: La Salle and UST Dominate UAAP Basketball

Regardless of the discipline, La Salle and UST remained the kings and queens of the UAAP basketball court. The La Salle Green Archers and the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigresses reigned supreme once more, this time in the UAAP Season 86 3×3 basketball tournament.

Men’s Championship

The La Salle Green Archers captured the UAAP 3×3 basketball championship just months after reigning the men’s 5-on-5. Down by as many as 7 points early, La Salle stormed back against the upset-seeking UE Red Warriors, 17-16, to retain the men’s 3×3 title. CJ Austria was awarded the Most Valuable Player.

  • Austria scored 5 points in the finale.
  • Rookie of the Year Jonnel Policarpio contributed 8 markers.
  • Earl Abadam’s final jumper sealed the victory for La Salle.

Women’s Championship

The UST Growling Tigresses defended their 3×3 crown, defeating the NU Lady Bulldogs 21-18. Kent Pastrana led UST with 11 points and was named the MVP of the women’s tournament. Tantoy Ferrer added 8 points to end her UAAP career with championships in both basketball disciplines.

  • Pastrana made the championship-clinching free throws.
  • Graduating player Tantoy Ferrer expressed her joy in ending her UAAP career with a championship.

Both La Salle and UST showcased their dominance in UAAP basketball, securing victories in both the men’s and women’s divisions.
