Mel Tiangco Renews Contract with GMA Integrated News
Award-winning news pillar and “24 Oras” anchor Mel Tiangco has reaffirmed her dedication to “Mas malaking misyon, mas malawak na paglilingkod sa bayan! (Greater mission, greater public service)” by renewing her contract with GMA Integrated News on April 2.
Ceremonial Signing
GMA Network Chairman and lawyer Felipe Gozon, President and CEO Gilberto Duavit, Jr., Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Felipe Yalong, Senior Vice President and Head of GMA Integrated News, Regional TV, Synergy Oliver Victor Amoroso and Corporate Affairs and Communications Vice President Angel Javier Cruz were present at the ceremonial signing.
A proud Kapuso since 1996, Tiangco has been a leading figure in news and public service for over three decades. She has anchored newscasts “Saksi” and “Frontpage: Ulat Ni Mel Tiangco” and is a pioneering anchor of primetime’s top-rating newscast “24 Oras.” Incidentally, her contract renewal coincides with the program’s 20th anniversary.
Professional Achievements
With a career spanning over 40 years, Tiangco is recognized as one of the country’s most esteemed news pillars. Besides her “24 Oras” responsibilities, Tiangco continues to share heartwarming and inspiring stories through the award-winning drama anthology “Magpakailanman” and contributes to the network’s socio-civic arm Kapuso Foundation, where she currently serves as its ambassador and special adviser.
In 2019, Tiangco became the first broadcast journalist to receive the Rotary Peace Award, the highest honor of Rotary International District 3830. She has also been inducted into the Hall of Fame by Anak TV (Makabata Award) and EdukCircle (Outstanding Journalist in Public Service). She has received numerous awards from the Philippine Movie Press Club, Soroptimist International, and ComGuild Center for Journalism.
In 2023, Tiangco was honored with the “Gawad Bagani sa Larangan ng Telebisyon” at the 7th Gawad Bagani Sa Komunikasyon: Para sa Makabagong Mandirigma sa Radyo at Telebisyon by the University of the East Caloocan.
