Angge Poyos Aiming for UAAP Season 86 Crown
Angge Poyos of the UST Golden Tigresses is eyeing the UAAP Season 86 crown as her top priority as the team heads into the Final Four with hopes of breaking a 14-year championship drought.
Stellar Performance of Angge Poyos
Angge Poyos, having a remarkable season with the UST Golden Tigresses, is in contention to become only the third rookie to win the MVP title in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament. This achievement has been previously attained by NU Bulldogs’ Bella Belen and La Salle Lady Spikers’ Angel Canino.
Focus on the Championship
Despite the individual accolades, Poyos remains focused on the ultimate goal of winning the Season 86 championship. The Tigresses secured a twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four after defeating the Lady Spikers in the elimination round, with Poyos contributing significantly with 22 points in that crucial victory.
“I have no expectations to get the award. That is just a bonus. The important thing for me is the championship. That has been our goal this season,” said Poyos in Filipino.
Key Matchup in the Final Four
Poyos concluded the elimination round as the league’s second-highest scorer with 290 points, setting the stage for a pivotal showdown against the Lady Spikers in the Final Four. The Tigresses aim to secure a finals spot and potentially claim their first championship since Season 72 in 2010.
With the upcoming match against the Lady Spikers, Poyos’ scoring prowess will be crucial for UST as they strive to advance to the finals and pursue their championship aspirations.
Final Four Scenarios
In the other Final Four pairing, top seed NU will face fourth seed FEU Lady Tamaraws, with NU looking to secure a finals berth. The matches are set to take place on May 4 and May 5 at the Araneta Coliseum and Mall of Asia Arena, respectively.
