Reigning MVP Nikola Jokic Lands on All-NBA First Team
Just two weeks after winning his third MVP title in five years, Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic secured a spot on the All-NBA First Team for the fourth time in his career. Jokic, along with Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, was one of the two unanimous selections on the first team, receiving votes on all 99 ballots from a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters.
Jokic’s Impressive Season Stats
In the 2023-2024 season, Jokic showcased his dominance by averaging 26.4 points, 12.4 rebounds, 9.0 assists, and 1.4 steals across 79 games for the Nuggets. Despite his stellar performance, Jokic couldn’t lead the Nuggets past the Timberwolves in the Western Conference semifinals, where they were eliminated in seven games.
Other Notable Players on the All-NBA First Team
Joining Jokic and Gilgeous-Alexander on the All-NBA First Team were Luka Doncic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Jayson Tatum. Doncic has now made it to the First Team for five consecutive years, while Antetokounmpo has achieved this feat for six years, and Tatum for three.
Potential NBA Finals Matchup
If the Mavericks can overcome the Timberwolves in the Western Conference finals and the Celtics defeat the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference finals, there is a possibility of a showdown between Doncic and Tatum in the NBA Finals. Currently, the Celtics lead 1-0 against Indiana, and Dallas won their opener against Minnesota.
All-NBA Second and Third Teams
Minnesota guard Anthony Edwards was named to the All-NBA Second Team for the first time in his career. Other players on the Second Team include Jalen Brunson, Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard, and Anthony Davis. The All-NBA Third Team features Stephen Curry, Devin Booker, Tyrese Haliburton, LeBron James, and Domantas Sabonis.
LeBron James, who has now made an All-NBA team for 20 consecutive seasons, holds the league record. He first made an All-NBA team at the age of 20 in 2005 and has now become the oldest player to ever be selected at the age of 39.
