Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) in Cebu
Thousands of athletes gathered in the province of Cebu for the annual Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) with the goal of becoming champions and earning a spot in the Palarong Pambansa 2024.
Historic Year for Sports
Cebu City Sports Commission Chairman John Pages highlighted the significance of this year for sports, with the upcoming Paris Olympic Games scheduled for July 26. It marks a century since the last time France’s capital hosted the Olympics.
Pages mentioned that it has been three decades since Cebu hosted the Palarong Pambansa and a decade since Cebu City welcomed numerous athletes for CVIRAA. This year’s regional meet is positioned as a lead-up to the national sports event.
“This is just a prelude to an even grander showcase during the Palaro. This is the beauty of these giant sporting meets—they bring everyone together in friendship,” expressed the sports commission chief.
Event Highlights
The CVIRAA kicked off with an opening ceremony on May 4, featuring 20 school divisions from Negros Oriental, Siquijor, Bohol, and Cebu. The following day, all 28 CVIRAA sports events officially began, with athletes demonstrating their skills and strategies on the courts.
