Indonesian Rescuers End Search for Missing Rohingya Refugees
Indonesian rescuers have concluded the search for Rohingya refugees missing at sea after their boat capsized. Despite reports from survivors that more individuals were swept away, the search efforts have been called off.
Rescue Efforts
On Thursday, 69 survivors were found drifting at sea off Aceh Province after spending over a day standing on the hull of the capsized ship. An additional six individuals had been rescued by fishermen the day before.
Reason for Search Termination
The search was halted due to the lack of a passenger list. It was reported that around 150 refugees were on board, but without a manifest, the exact number of missing persons remains unknown.
Survivor Accounts
Survivors estimated that there were approximately 150 people on the boat before it capsized. Some accounts suggest that around 50 individuals may have gone missing and perished in the incident.
The United Nations refugee agency (UNHCR) expressed deep concern over the situation and is closely monitoring the developments.
