RJ Abarrientos Faces Ongoing Learning Curve Following Challenging B. League Season

RJ Abarrientos’ Transition to the Japan B. League

After an impressive Rookie of the Year performance in the Korean Basketball League, RJ Abarrientos faced challenges in his debut season with the Shinshu Brave Warriors in the Japan B. League.

A Tough Start in Japan

Following a successful stint with the Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus in the KBL, Abarrientos moved to the Japan B. League for the 2023-2024 season. However, his new team, the Shinshu Brave Warriors, struggled throughout the season, finishing second to last with a 10-50 record.

Adapting to a Different Style of Play

Abarrientos, a former FEU Tamaraws standout, experienced a shift in playing style between the KBL and the B. League. He noted the differences in team dynamics and the level of competition between the two leagues.

  • In Korea, only one import player can be on the court at a time, while in Japan, teams can have two.
  • The size and skill level of players in Japan posed new challenges for Abarrientos.

Looking Ahead

Despite the tough season, Abarrientos remains optimistic about his future in the B. League. He emphasized the importance of improving his leadership skills and communication on the court.

As he prepares for the next season, Abarrientos aims to enhance his role as a floor general and elevate his performance for the Shinshu Brave Warriors.

“I’m focused on becoming a better leader for my team, both on and off the court,” Abarrientos shared.

With his contract set to expire, Abarrientos is eager to continue his growth as a player and make a greater impact in the upcoming season.
