Scottie Thompson’s Efforts Lead to Olsen Racela Coaching Perpetual
Barangay Ginebra star Scottie Thompson played a key role in convincing Olsen Racela to take on the coaching position at his alma mater, Perpetual, in the NCAA.
Racela’s Coaching Background
Olsen Racela, a former player with nine PBA championships and five-time Mythical Team member, is set to make a return to the collegiate coaching scene. He previously coached the FEU Tamaraws in the UAAP for five seasons.
Thompson’s Support for the Coaching Transition
Thompson, who also serves as the team manager for Perpetual, expressed his satisfaction with Racela’s decision to lead the Altas. He mentioned that Racela has agreed to take on the coaching role, and the school management is pleased with his appointment.
Thompson emphasized the importance of supporting the team through this transition and ensuring that the players are on board with the changes. He acknowledged the players’ attachment to the previous coach, Myk Saguiguit, and expressed hope that they will welcome Racela’s leadership.
Despite both Thompson and Racela having ties to Ginebra, Thompson clarified that the move was not influenced by San Miguel Corporation, dispelling rumors linking the conglomerate to the coaching change.
Perpetual, which narrowly missed the Final Four in the past two seasons, aims to improve its performance under Racela’s guidance after finishing fifth in the Season 99 elimination round.
