Shawn Umali Transfers to St. Benilde Blazers
Bruising big man Shawn Umali has decided to part ways with the Lyceum Pirates and will be joining the St. Benilde Blazers for the upcoming NCAA Season 101.
Umali’s Performance at Lyceum
- Averaged 11 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.6 blocks, and 1 steal in NCAA Season 99
- Helped the Pirates reach the Final Four as the second seed
Despite a strong performance, Lyceum fell short to eventual champion San Beda in the playoffs.
Umali’s Future with St. Benilde
Umali, a forward-center, will be eligible to play for two more seasons starting from NCAA Season 101 in 2025. He aims to fill the gap left by former NCAA Most Valuable Player Will Gozum.
The Blazers also bid farewell to Migs Oczon, who moved to the Korean Basketball League.
College of Saint Benilde head coach Charles Tiu expressed his excitement about Umali joining the team, citing Umali’s skills and the desire for a La Salle education as key factors in his decision.
