Singapore Airlines Enhances Cabin Safety Measures

Singapore Airlines Enhances Safety Measures

Singapore Airlines announced new cabin safety measures following a recent turbulence incident that resulted in one fatality and numerous injuries on a flight from London to Singapore.

Measures Implemented

  • Meal services suspended during turbulence
  • Cabin crew required to fasten seat belts
  • Hot beverage service suspended when seat belt sign is on

The airline emphasized a more cautious approach to managing turbulence in-flight, with crew members instructed to return to their seats and secure their seat belts when the seat belt sign is illuminated.

Response to the Incident

Following the extreme turbulence experienced by a Boeing 777 jet in the Irrawaddy basin, resulting in a sharp descent and emergency landing in Thailand, Singapore Airlines is taking proactive steps to enhance passenger safety.

Passengers have described the harrowing experience of the aircraft shaking violently, with loose items flying around and injured individuals on the cabin floor.

Enhanced Safety Protocols

  • Securing loose items in the cabin and galley
  • Advising passengers to return to their seats and fasten seat belts
  • Monitoring passengers who may require assistance

The airline reaffirmed its commitment to passenger and crew safety and stated that it will continuously review and improve safety processes.

Investigation and Response

Authorities are investigating the incident to determine the cause of the severe turbulence, believed to be clear air turbulence, a type that poses significant risks without warning.

Singapore Airlines has expressed deep regret over the incident and is fully cooperating with the investigation. The airline’s CEO has personally visited those hospitalized to provide support and assistance.
