Choco Mucho’s Journey to the PVL Finals
Against all odds, the Choco Mucho Flying Titans are now back on the verge of booking a PVL finals return trip. The team achieved a stunning 25-20, 25-19, 25-23 sweep of the reeling Chery Tiggo Crossovers on Thursday, May 2.
Overcoming Adversity
Already without star Des Cheng and bench middle blocker Aduke Ogunsanya due to ACL tears for practically the entire 2024 All-Filipino tilt, Choco Mucho faced additional challenges when they lost another star player, Kat Tolentino, in the home stretch due to an ear-related issue. Despite these setbacks, the team remains in contention for a finals spot.
Royse Tubino’s Impact
Veteran winger Royse Tubino played a crucial role in Choco Mucho’s recent successes. Initially accepting a minimal role, Tubino stepped up when her extended services were required. She scored 20 points in a historic five-set victory against Creamline and followed it up with 17 points against Chery Tiggo.
Team Effort and Determination
Tubino remains humble and attributes her success to the support of her coaching staff and teammates. She emphasizes the importance of guidance and teamwork in achieving their goals. With one more win needed to secure a finals spot, Tubino is focused on maintaining an aggressive approach and acknowledges the hard work put in by everyone involved.
“We just need to be more aggressive. Earlier we had a slow start. We have two days of training before Petro Gazz so we have to get that aggressive tone going,” Tubino stated. “We deserve these wins against Creamline and Chery Tiggo because we all worked hard to be where we are at.”
