Celebrating Victory
The La Salle Lady Spikers showcased their skills in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament.
Steely Performance
Unlike their previous defeat against the UST Golden Tigresses, the Lady Spikers demonstrated resilience and secured a come-from-behind victory against the NU Lady Bulldogs, a rematch of last season’s UAAP finals.
A five-set heartbreaker against UST fueled La Salle’s determination to avoid a similar outcome. With a strong display of nerves, the Lady Spikers claimed a hard-fought 15-25, 25-19, 18-25, 25-19, 15-12 win over NU at the Araneta Coliseum on March 16.
Lessons Learned
Reflecting on their previous loss, Angel Canino emphasized the importance of not becoming complacent despite holding a lead. The team’s focus on continuous effort and determination proved vital in securing a victory over NU.
Shevana Laput, Angel Canino, Amie Provido, and Alleiah Malaluan played key roles in La Salle’s success, with Laput leading the scoring with 20 points, closely followed by Canino with 17 points.
Defensive Excellence
Provido’s defensive prowess, highlighted by 5 block points, and Malaluan’s contribution of 12 points, complemented the team’s improved playmaking led by Julia Coronel’s 22 excellent sets and 4 blocks.
Despite a strong performance from Alyssa Solomon and Bella Belen of NU, La Salle’s collective effort and determination proved decisive in clinching the victory and snapping NU’s five-game winning streak.
NU concluded the first round in third place with a 5-2 record, while La Salle secured second place with a 6-1 standing, setting the stage for an exciting continuation of the tournament.
