TikTok tests 60-minute video uploads in the Philippines

TikTok Expanding Video Upload Limits

TikTok is currently testing the capability for users to upload videos of up to 60 minutes in length, a move that could position the platform as a competitor to YouTube in the realm of long-form video content.

Limited Availability in Select Markets

Reports suggest that this new feature is being trialed with a limited group of users in specific markets, indicating that TikTok is exploring the potential for expanding its content offerings.

Responding to User Demand

Initially launched with a 15-minute upload limit, TikTok has gradually increased this restriction over time. The platform has acknowledged the feedback from creators who desire more flexibility in video length, particularly for content such as cooking demonstrations, beauty tutorials, educational lessons, and comedy sketches.

Diversifying Content and Partnerships

By extending the video upload limit, TikTok aims to accommodate a broader range of content, including full episodes of TV shows. In a notable move, Peacock released the first episode of a series on TikTok, albeit segmented into parts due to existing time constraints.

If this feature rollout progresses, it could eliminate the need for segmented content releases, potentially opening up new opportunities for creators and partnerships.

Enhancing User Experience

In addition to longer videos, TikTok is also working on introducing a horizontal full-screen mode with video-scrubbing thumbnails, enhancing the viewing experience for users.

Is TikTok Becoming the Next YouTube?

With these developments, some may question whether TikTok is evolving to resemble YouTube more closely. What are your thoughts on TikTok’s expansion into long-form content? Share your opinions in the comments below!
