TNT and NLEX Secure Victories Against Terrafirma and Converge

In a highly anticipated matchup, the TNT Tropang Giga redeemed themselves after a shocking defeat in their previous game by securing a hard-fought 100-97 win against the previously undefeated Terrafirma Dyip in the PBA Philippine Cup at the iconic Araneta Coliseum on Saturday, March 9.

Led by the seasoned guard Jayson Castro, who showcased a vintage performance with a team-leading 23 points on an impressive 7-of-12 shooting, TNT displayed resilience and determination throughout the game. Despite missing key players Roger Pogoy and Kelly Williams due to injuries, the Tropang Giga found support from Calvin Oftana and Glenn Khobuntin, who contributed 19 points each. Additionally, rookie Henry Galinato delivered a standout performance with career-high numbers of 17 points and 11 rebounds, proving his worth in crucial moments.

TNT head coach Chot Reyes emphasized the importance of having a deep roster, especially in the face of injuries to key players like Pogoy, Williams, and Poy Erram. The team’s ability to adapt and perform under challenging circumstances highlighted their preparedness and determination to succeed in a competitive league.

The game witnessed tense moments in the final minutes, with TNT holding on to a slim 98-97 lead. Despite a missed opportunity by Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser, Terrafirma failed to capitalize on their chances to overtake the Tropang Giga. Castro’s clutch free throws in the closing seconds solidified TNT’s victory, as Terrafirma’s attempts to stage a comeback fell short.

On the opposing side, top rookie Stephen Holt displayed an impressive all-around performance with 24 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists, leading the charge for Terrafirma alongside Juami Tiongson and Javi Gomez de Liaño, who contributed 21 and 18 points, respectively.

In the second game of the day, the NLEX Road Warriors showcased their dominance against the winless Converge FiberXers, securing a commanding 115-93 victory. Robert Bolick delivered a stellar performance, scoring a career-high 46 points on efficient shooting, including crucial plays in the third quarter that helped NLEX pull away from their opponents.

Bolick’s exceptional performance, coupled with contributions from Robbie Herndon and Jhan Nermal, propelled NLEX to their third win in four matches. Bolick’s scoring prowess and leadership on the court were instrumental in securing the victory and maintaining NLEX’s strong position in the league standings.

NLEX head coach Frankie Lim commended Bolick’s offensive outburst and emphasized the team’s need to maintain pressure on their opponents to secure decisive victories. Lim’s strategic approach and emphasis on maintaining focus throughout the game proved effective in guiding NLEX to another impressive win.

In a thrilling day of PBA action, the TNT Tropang Giga and NLEX Road Warriors showcased their resilience, depth, and determination to secure crucial victories. With standout performances from key players and strategic guidance from their coaches, both teams demonstrated their readiness to compete at the highest level of Philippine basketball.
