Creamline Spiker Tots Carlos Shines in PVL All-Filipino Conference
New PVL local scoring record holder Tots Carlos attributes her success to Creamline head coach Sherwin Meneses for his calming presence during challenging moments in games.
The Comeback
They say there is no point kicking someone while they’re down, and the same sometimes applies in sports. This was evident in the recent PVL match where the Creamline dynasty faced a potential second straight-set loss in three games after being undefeated for the past five years. Instead of adding pressure on the team, coach Sherwin Meneses encouraged his players to stay focused and play their game, disregarding the score against the Cignal HD Spikers.
The calming effect of Meneses worked wonders as Tots Carlos led a remarkable comeback from two sets and three match points down, achieving a five-set victory and setting a new PVL local-player scoring record with 38 points.
Team Effort
Carlos, known for her humility, credited her teammates and coaches for their support during a challenging situation. She highlighted the positive reinforcement from Coach Meneses, who emphasized giving their best without added pressure.
Supporting Carlos’s outstanding performance were players like Kyle Negrito, Jema Galanza, and Kyla Atienza, who contributed significantly to the team’s success.
Coach’s Perspective
Coach Meneses emphasized the importance of consistency and resilience in volleyball. He maintained a calm demeanor throughout the game, focusing on sticking to the team’s practice and system rather than getting rattled by setbacks.
According to Meneses, maintaining composure and continuous effort are key factors in achieving success in volleyball. He prioritizes players’ efforts over results, emphasizing the importance of fighting till the end.
