On a Saturday afternoon, a vehicle driven by a suspected drunken driver crashed into a children’s birthday party at the boat club. The crash resulted in the death of an 8-year-old girl and her 5-year-old brother at the scene. The driver, a 66-year-old woman, crashed 25 feet into the building, causing chaos and emotional distress among the victims and witnesses.
Response and Injuries
First responders described the scene as extremely chaotic, with a high level of emotions among those involved. Three children and six adults sustained life-threatening injuries and were transported to area hospitals by helicopters or ambulances. Others received first aid at the scene and were later taken to hospitals by private vehicles.
Suspect in Custody
The woman driving the vehicle was taken into custody and is suspected of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated causing death. She is cooperating with authorities, and further charges may be brought as the investigation progresses.
