Tragic Loss: Multiple Children Killed in Gaza Overnight

Intense Hostilities in Gaza Continue Despite Ceasefire Call

Intense hostilities in Gaza continued on Tuesday between Hamas fighters and Israeli forces, with reports of a “double-digit number of children killed overnight” and ongoing aid delivery obstacles leading to near-famine conditions, according to UN humanitarians.

Urgent Appeals for Ceasefire Respect

The violence persists despite an immediate ceasefire call for the remainder of Ramadan from the Security Council on Monday. UN aid agencies have urgently appealed for the resolution to be respected immediately to prevent further loss of life.

Children in Need of Urgent Care

Children are currently being treated in a temporary field hospital in Mouraj, a neighborhood in the south of the Gaza Strip, as reported by WHO. UNICEF spokesperson James Elder stated that 13,750 children have been killed according to Gaza’s health authorities amid the ongoing violence.

Devastation in Khan Younis

The southern Gazan city of Khan Younis has been heavily impacted, with UNICEF describing it as “barely existing anymore” due to constant Israeli bombardment. The destruction has left many children and families buried under the rubble of their homes.

Humanitarian Aid Challenges

Despite some progress in aid delivery, hundreds of trucks containing lifesaving humanitarian aid remain stranded over the border in Egypt. The UN has warned of Gaza’s decline into imminent famine, with one in three children under two years old suffering from acute malnutrition.

Health Crisis and Urgent Needs

The health crisis in Gaza is worsening, with reports of patients leaving hospitals due to intense hostilities. The UN World Health Organization has raised concerns about the dire situation in hospitals like Al Amal and Al Shifa, which have come under attack.

Appeal for Uninterrupted Aid Delivery

The UN aid coordination office, OCHA, has urged Israel to lift its ban on aid deliveries to the north by UNRWA. The need for sustained aid delivery and access to essential services remains critical in Gaza.
