Josh Ybañez Set to Debut as Libero in AVC Challenge Cup
Reigning UAAP men’s volleyball MVP and Best Outside Hitter Josh Ybañez is ready to showcase his floor defense skills in his Alas Pilipinas national team debut at the 2024 Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Challenge Cup for Men in Bahrain.
Position Change for Ybañez
Known for his exceptional hitting as a Best Outside Hitter, Ybañez will now focus on floor defense, with head coach Sergio Veloso converting him to a libero for the national team.
Team Lineup
Joining Ybañez in the lineup are established hitters like Marck Espejo, Nico Almendras, Jau Umandal, Noel Kampton, Jade Disquitado, and Leo Ordiales. Middle blockers JP Bugaoan, Kim Malabunga, Lloyd Josafat, and Peng Taguibolos will form the front line defense, with Vince Lorenzo as the other libero.
Owa Retamar, the recently crowned UAAP champion and Best Setter, will take on the role of the main playmaker, supported by Joseph Bello.

Alas Pilipinas is scheduled to play against China on June 2 and host Bahrain on June 3 in the AVC Challenge Cup.
