UNRWA Reports Over 810,000 People in Rafah Exodus

Humanitarian Crisis Unfolding in Rafah, Gaza

Amid ongoing Israeli military operations, over 810,000 people have been forced to flee Rafah in just two weeks, risking their lives in search of safety. The situation remains dire as families are displaced with no safe zones in sight.

Escalating Crisis in Rafah

Streets in Rafah are now deserted as families continue to flee, leaving behind their belongings and homes. Images depict the heartbreaking scenes of families with their possessions loaded onto cars and makeshift trailers, while shelters made of simple sheeting stretch as far as the eye can see along the coastline.

Impact of Violence

According to Gazan health authorities, the violence has resulted in at least 35,300 deaths and over 79,260 injuries. The recent attacks by Hamas have further escalated the situation, leading to significant casualties on both sides.

Humanitarian Aid Disruption

The delivery of humanitarian aid has been severely disrupted, with supplies almost entirely halted through the main entry points of Rafah crossing and Kerem Shalom. The lack of aid reaching the enclave has exacerbated the already dire conditions faced by the displaced population.

Challenges for Healthcare Workers

Healthcare workers in Gaza are facing immense challenges, with only a third of hospitals operational due to constant fighting. The closure of crossings has led to a shortage of medical supplies, forcing medical staff to ration resources and putting additional strain on the healthcare system.

Despite the dangers and obstacles, humanitarian and healthcare workers are tirelessly working to provide assistance and care to those in need, demonstrating incredible resilience and dedication in the face of adversity.
