UN Allocates $12 Million to Support Haiti Amid Violence
A recent $12 million contribution from a UN emergency humanitarian fund aims to assist individuals affected by the recent violence in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The funds will facilitate aid partners in reaching those most severely impacted by the situation.
Current Situation in Port-au-Prince
Port-au-Prince has been facing significant challenges due to the presence of armed gangs, with the situation escalating following a recent jailbreak that allowed numerous criminals to escape. Displaced individuals have sought refuge in various locations, including a boxing arena in downtown Port-au-Prince.
Utilization of Funds
The allocation from the UN’s Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) will be utilized to provide essential assistance such as food, water, protection, healthcare, sanitation, and hygiene support to displaced individuals and host communities in Port-au-Prince and the neighboring Artibonite province.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that the situation remains tense, with attacks on healthcare facilities exacerbating the already dire circumstances for the affected population.
