Collaborative Efforts for Assistance
Despite challenges, WFP, in partnership with local organizations and businesses, has reached approximately 480,000 people with food assistance since March.
Support Provided
Over the past month, more than 358,000 hot meals have been distributed to over 69,000 individuals in 48 displacement sites in the capital. Additionally, humanitarian partners have delivered over 2.3 million liters of water to nearly 29 displacement sites, benefiting around 60,000 displaced individuals.
Healthcare and Education Impact
Amidst the violence, the health sector has suffered, with many facilities in the capital operating below capacity. More than 1,000 schools have been closed, contributing to the dire humanitarian situation in Haiti.
Tragic Landmine Incidents in Afghanistan
UNICEF reported that over 10 children were killed or injured in separate landmine explosions in Afghanistan, emphasizing the devastating impact of such incidents on innocent lives.
Long-term Consequences
Since 1989, nearly 44,000 Afghan civilians have been affected by landmines and explosive remnants of war, with an average of around 110 casualties per month. A recent UNICEF report highlighted approximately 700 children maimed or killed by explosive ordnance in 2022.
