Zsa Zsa Padilla and Karylle Tatlonghari-Yuzon at Santa Cruz de Mayo 2024
Mother and daughter Zsa Zsa Padilla and Karylle Tatlonghari-Yuzon participated in the “Santa Cruz de Mayo 2024” event held inside the historic walled city of Intramuros on May 19. The event was organized by the Philippine Heritage Society in collaboration with the Filipinas Heritage Foundation, the Intramuros Administration, the Admiral Hotel, and The Manila Times as the media partner.
The Event
Santa Cruz de Mayo 2024 aimed to showcase the beautiful traditional and religio-historical pageant to a new generation of Filipinos and tourists. The Santacruzan is a processional activity that honors the finding of the Holy Cross by Queen Helena, also known as Reyna Elena, the mother of Emperor Constantine the Great.
Participants
Young women traditionally participate in the procession, embodying various biblical and historical figures such as Reyna Elena, Mary Magdalene, and other biblical queens. These participants are referred to as sagalas.
Padilla and Yuzon’s Roles
Zsa Zsa Padilla portrayed Reyna Emperatriz, while Karylle Tatlonghari-Yuzon took on the role of Reyna Elena during the procession held in the Intramuros grounds. The procession culminated at Manila Cathedral where a group of 37 sagalas gathered for a prayer.
